North Head is a Volcanic Cone located in Devonport on Auckland's North Shore New Zealand. It is a short distance from the Devonport ferry Terminal and is often seen within the vinicity of its neighbouring volcanoe Mt Victoria. In the past it has been used as military protection base during the late 1800's and during the 2nd World war. It is now a reserve and thus a popular tourist attraction offering spectacular views of many Auckland landmarks. A great view the Auckland city skyline can be seen in the distance, as well as Rangitoto island, Takapuna and neighbouring beaches.
Entrance is via Takarunga road and there is car parking up to two thirds the way up or alternatively there is an easy track leading to the summit.
