  • Rework by Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson Book Review

Rework is a business book by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson from 37signals. The book aims to shake up the way we work and do business by presenting a direct and common sense, yet smart and perceptive approach to business. If you have heard Jason and David present or read Signal vs Noise (37signals blog) before the tone and content may immediately sound familiar.

Topics such as meetings are toxic, pick a fight with competitors and fire workaholics are trademark themes from the pair. Despite the hooks they offer pragmatic and actionable advice backed by their proven business track record. The chapter on competition is particularly refreshing providing plenty of guerrilla tips and strategies.

Although 37signals operates in the technology space the book applies to any industry and much of the value comes from their nifty examples which validate their points. The book is an easy read which can be comfortably finished in less than half a day. Each chapter is broken into a collection of micro essays easily consumed in order or digested separately on its own. If you’re looking for a guide to start a business look no further - this is it. Highly recommended.
